- JPMorgan Chase is going to pay $50 million to settle a lawsuit brought by the Attorney General of California that accused the bank of engaging in illegal debt collection activities. The settlement is a follow-up to a separate settlement announced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in July with Chase.
- President Obama signed a budget bill into law yesterday, which, along with allowing federal agencies to continue to operate, allows debt collectors to use automated dialers when collecting on federal student loans. Cue the double-standard music, please.
