- The Attorney General of Ohio has filed a lawsuit against a New York-based collection agency for engaging in illegal collection activities. The firm, called Rotech Holdings, operates as RH Group and was the subject of at least 30 complaints from Buckeye State residents.
- The Attorney General of Indiana has joined the Federal Trade Commission’s Operation Collection Protection, issuing a press release in support of the initiative. As with other state and federal agencies, complaints against debt collectors are among the most common filed with the AG’s office in Indiana.
- A South Carolina county is considering hiring collection agencies to recoup $1.7 million in unpaid ambulance rides. The county has already replaced five employees who were sending out collection letters with a third-party vendor.
- Rotech Holdings is also in legal hot water in Washington State. The company is one of a number of individuals and organizations named in a press release from the Washington Attorney General’s office about efforts that the AG has taken against illegal and abusive debt collectors, including a lawsuit filed this week against an individual who allegedly engaged in the unauthorized practice of law by filing collection actions in state courts.
