- The state of Nevada is going to use millions of dollars received in a nationwide settlement with JPMorgan Chase to clear a backlog of 7,500 rape kits that were never tested. About $1.7 million of the $3.7 million allocated to test the kits, which date back as much as 30 years, will come from the state’s portion of the settlement with Chase, over illegal debt collection practices used by the bank.

- Debt collectors featured prominently in an annual report issued by Whitepages, which tracks the number of fraudulent and spam phone calls placed to consumers. The number of spam and scam phone calls increased 34% in 2015, compared with last year, according to the company. The company also released the area codes where most spam and scam calls originated. Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington, D.C., appeared on both lists.
