- The number of lawsuits against collection agencies alleging violations of the FDCPA, FCRA, and TCPA declined in November, compared with October, but still remain ahead of last year’s pace, especially FCRA and TCPA lawsuits, which are up 57% and 89% over last year’s numbers, according to data released by WebRecon.
BE WARY OF POP-INS
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has issued a compliance bulletin related to collecting debt in person. The bulletin follows a recent consent order where a company was accused of making in-person visits to homes and places of work to collect on unpaid debts. The bulletin cites the provisions of the FDCPA and Dodd-Frank Act that cover how and when debts can be collected in person.
