UTAH MAN DIES IN PRISON AFTER ARREST FOR NOT PAYING DEBT
- An unemployed Utah man who was arrested after not paying a bill incurred for an ambulance ride from 2013 died while in jail. The man was sued for about $2,400 and could not make any payments, which led to his arrest. Police said that the man was “thumbing his nose” at the ambulance organization by not trying to make any payments.
FCC PROPOSES RULE TO ALLOW CERTAIN AUTODIALER CALLS
- A notice of proposed rulemaking was circulated last week within the Federal Communications Commission that would exempt companies collecting on debt guaranteed by, or owed to, the federal government from calls made by an autodialer. The FCC has been told it must implement this rule by August 2.
TOYOTA USING ANALYTICS TO BOOST COLLECTION RATES
- Toyota is using analytics and business intelligence to improve its relationships with customers who are delinquent on their auto loan payments. The overall goal is to lower the lender’s overall delinquency and default rate, and without getting into specifics, Toyota says the approach is working.
WISCONSIN PASSES LIBRARY COLLECTIONS MEASURE
- A bill that would allow public libraries in Wisconsin to outsource collections of unpaid debts to third-party agencies has passed the state legislature and is awaiting the signature of the governor. Libraries in the state log more than $3.5 million in lost property and unpaid fines every year
