SENATE HEARING DEBATES CFPB’S EFFECTIVENESS
- The Senate Banking Committee held a hearing yesterday, attempting to determine whether the regulations put forth by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau have had a positive or negative impact on consumers. The hearing came two days before the committee heard from Richard Cordray, the director of the CFPB. Of those who testified yesterday, the message was that more regulations have resulted in fewer opportunities for consumers.
PRA GROUP PROMOTES OCHS TO VP POSITION
- PRA Group has announced the promotion of Gary Ochs to vice president of technology services. Ochs was most recently the senior manager in charge of data center operations prior to the promotion. He has spent nearly two decades working in IT.
CONSUMER ADVOCACY STUDY ATTEMPTS TO DISPEL CLAIMS FROM INDUSTRY
- The Center for Responsible Lending has conducted a study, analyzing the impact of recently enacted laws in North Carolina and Maryland on the availability of consumer credit in those states. The study is an attempt to contradict opinions from the debt-buying industry who allegedly claimed that the newly enacted laws would impact the availability of credit to consumers in those states.
