PHILAELPHIA CONSIDERS SELLING $70 MILLION IN UNPAID BUSINESS TAXES
- The city of Philadelphia is considering selling some or all of the $70 million in unpaid business taxes that it is owed by companies going back six years. The city is going to study whether it is feasible to sell some of that debt to a third party. The city will be working on an expedited timeline to complete the study but did not provide a more concrete timeline.
SUBCOMMITTEE PASSES BILL THAT WOULD REFORM CFPB BUDGET PROCESS
- A House subcommittee has approved an appropriations bill for 2017 that would move the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s annual budget under the congressional appropriations process, and no longer funding the agency directly from the Federal Reserve Board. The move would allow for “increased accountability and transparency of the agency’s activities and the use of tax dollars,” according to the House Financial Services and General Government Appropriations subcommittee.
