- The parent company of Kay Jewelers and Zales is watching its stock price plummet, following a report about the company that detailed how some Kay workers swapped out diamonds in engagement rings with cheap imitations. A separate report hinted that the company may be “courting regulatory scrutiny” over its debt collection techniques related to the financing it offers for in-store purchases. The in-house financing operation contributed $225 million in income to the company’s bottom line last year.

The caller claimed that the mother should “beg, borrow, or steal the money,” and if she was unable to come up with it, a warrant would be issued for her arrest. A partner with the after-care program says that she was unaware of a parent being told this.
