FEDERAL GOVERNMENT STOOD BEHIND DEBT BUYER IN SUPREME COURT BRIEF
- While arguing that procedurally, and because of a lack of relevant diverging precedents, the Supreme Court should not hear the case, the United States government otherwise stood behind a debt buyer that tried to charge the same amount of interest on a credit card that had been charged by the original creditor. The terms of a loan when sold by a creditor to a debt buyer transfer to the debt buyer and should still be valid, the Solicitor General’s office said in a brief filed with the Supreme Court on the case, Midland Funding v. Madden.
HOUSE COMMITTEE INVESTIGATING CFPB ADVERTISING STRATEGY
- The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has taken an interest in the millions of dollars being spent by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on advertising. The committee sent a letter to the CFPB this week, requesting information on every advertising contract the CFPB has signed during the past two fiscal years, as well as justification for why the contract was necessary.
