The number of lawsuits filed in June alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and the Fair Credit Reporting Act all increased over the number filed in May, according to data released today by WebRecon.
The 939 lawsuits alleging violations of the FDCPA were 11% higher than the number filed in May; there were 409 FCRA suits filed in June, 34.5% higher than a month earlier, and the 374 TCPA suits were slightly higher than the 352 filed in May.
On a year-over-year basis, the number of FCRA lawsuits is up 34%, while the number of TCPA lawsuits is 9% higher. Interestingly, the number of FDCPA lawsuits filed in the first half of 2016 is 21% lower than during the same period of 2015.
The number of complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was 3% lower on a month-over-month basis and is down 16% from last year.
Fewer companies were sued in June, but more were complained about, and 35% of those individuals who filed a lawsuit had previously done so, according to WebRecon.
