MAN RECEIVES HUNDREDS OF CALLS FROM SERVICER AFTER REVOKING CONSENT
- When it comes to revoking consent to be contacted, the rules are pretty cut and dried. If an individual tells you that he or she does not want to be contacted anymore, then you pretty much have to do what they say. So it’s kind of head-shaking in a way to read how one mortgage servicer acted after calling a man hundreds of times after he told them to stop calling him, because he was not the person they were looking for. Did the servicer listen? No. So the man got his state government to tell the servicer to stop calling. Did the servicer listen then? No. The attorneys for the servicer said the calls should stop. Did the servicer listen? No. Finally, the man contacted a law firm in the same state as the servicer. Only then was a settlement reached.
ALABAMA CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERING CHANGE OF AGENCIES TO GET MORE MONEY
- For collection agencies that work with municipal governments or are considering working with municipal governments, this is a possible cautionary tale. One Alabama city is looking at changing collection agencies because it uncovered that the collection agency it is currently working with is taking 50% of the recovered payments as commission. The city council has been told that there are other collection agencies that will work for a lower commission, and the council is considering making a change.
