STRONG OPINIONS ON CFPB RULING, IRS PLACING ACCOUNTS WITH COLLECTORS
- We start the week with some strong opinions on last week’s Appeals Court ruling involving the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Internal Revenue Service’s (forced) plan to outsource collections of unpaid tax bills to private collection agencies. Alfredo Ortiz, the CEO of the Job Creators Network, applauds the Appeals Court for its stance on the CFPB, pointing to increased regulation and a declining number of new financial services institutions opening their doors as evidence that the regulator needed to be reined in. Meanwhile, Lisa Spiwak, a California lawyer, shares her opinions about the benefits of the IRS placing delinquent accounts with private collection agencies, arguing that the IRS is “not getting the job done,” especially with an unpaid tax bill of $458 billion.
CFPB ANNOUNCES THREE JOB PROMOTIONS
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced a trio of promotions late last week, in its Legal Division and its Office for Older Americans. Stacy Canan has been promoted to Assistant Director for the Office for Older Americans, John Coleman was named Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Oversight, and Sonya White will promoted to Deputy General Counsel for General Law and Ethics in the Legal Division. All three have spent at least the past four years at the agency.
BANK CEO GIVES ADVICE TO OTHER WOMEN WHO HOPE TO MAKE THE C-SUITE
- Margaret Keane, the CEO of Synchrony Financial, and the 29th most powerful woman in the United States, according to Fortune Magazine, got her start as a part-time debt collector at Citibank. FLORIDA AGENCIES ANNOUNCE MERGER
- A pair of Florida collection agencies, Collection Services Inc., and Gulf Coast Collection Bureau have announced a merger and Collection Services will be moving its offices to Sarasota, Fla. by the beginning of next month. Collection Services has been in business for more than five decades and Gulf Coast Collection Bureau opened its doors in 1978.
