The Federal Communications Commission announced today that it will host a webinar next week for consumers to help them deal with robocalls.
The webinar will be held on Wednesday, December 14 at 1pm EST. As of Thursday afternoon, the link the FCC provided to register for the webinar was not working. The link is: www.fcc.gov/newsevents/events/2016/12/consumer-info-session-how-deal-robocalls. Alternatively, consumers can access an audio-only portion of the webinar by calling (888) 858-2144 and using 2697307 as the access code. The FCC will be accepting questions during the webinar via email. The email address is robocallswebinar@fcc.gov.
The topics and speakers for the webinar will be:
- Anthony Butler, Consumer Education and Outreach Specialist, Consumer Affairs and Outreach Division, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, who will give the opening remarks.
- Kristi Thornton, Associate Division Chief, Consumer Policy Division, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau on the topic of TCPA: Federal Debt, School, and Utility Robocalls.
- Kristi Thompson, Deputy Chief, Telecommunications Consumers Division, Enforcement Bureau, on the topic of A Different Perspective.
- Antonio Sweet, Technology Policy Advisor, Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis on the topic of Robocalls: How We Got Here and How We’re Fighting Back.
Explained the FCC: “The webinar, which is free and intended for all consumers, will provide information about consumers’ rights and the steps they can take to prevent robocalls. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the FCC plays a crucial role in helping consumers stop unwanted calls, text messages and faxes, particularly when they involve unwanted marketing or scams. This info session will explain the FCC’s role in addressing this issue and the steps consumers can take to protect themselves from and/or decrease the amount of unwanted robocalls they receive.”
