ACA INTERNATIONAL ACCUSES CFPB OF USING COLLECTION REPORT TO REINFORCE NEGATIVE INDUSTRY STEREOTYPE
- ACA International has some strong words for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which released a report early Thursday morning that details how consumers feel about their interactions with debt collectors. Accusing the CFPB of “ignoring” industry concerns, ACA accused the CFPB of engineering a process that was “designed to elicit a predetermined, negative response about the legitimate debt collection industry to support the bureau’s predetermined, negative view of how the industry works.”
COLLECTION AGENCY LAUNCHES FITNESS INITIATIVE
- Clearview Resolution Services, an Amherst, N.Y.-based collection agency, has started a company-wide fitness initiative. The winners int he two categories, weight loss/toning and muscle building, will each receive a $1,5000 gift card. All company employees received a 90-day membership to a local fitness facility and one hour paid per work day.
CALIFORNIA PROPOSES TO END SUSPENDING DRIVERS LICENSES FOR UNPAID COURT COSTS AND TRAFFIC TICKETS
- The state of California is proposing to no longer suspend the drivers licenses of individuals with unpaid traffic tickets and court fines. The practice has been alleged to unfairly target low-income individuals, while critics of the announcement say that cancelling the program will remove any incentive to paying the fines and leave a cash-strapped state in even more dire financial straits.
OVERVIEW OF SUPREME COURT FDCPA CASE
- The Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments next Tuesday in the case of Midland Funding LLC v. Johnson, the first step to issuing an opinion on whether the filing of claims on time-barred debts during bankruptcy proceedings is a violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
