TWO COLLECTION AGENCIES ANNOUNCE EXPANSIONS IN KENTUCKY
- Kentucky had a great day yesterday. First, Diversified Consultants announced it is opening a new office in Louisville and will hire up to 433 new employees. Then, Credit Bureau Systems announced it was opening a new office in Paducah and will staff it with up to 50 employees. Both companies are receiving incentives from either local government or the state to expand their operations in Kentucky.
LAWYER DENIES HE IS A DEBT COLLECTOR AS HE SEEKS REPAYMENT FOR UNPAID DEBTS
- Is a lawyer who is seeking payment for what he deems to be unpaid debts officially a debt collector if he sends a letter on his firm’s letterhead to those he is seeking to collect from? That is the meat of a case filed in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The lawyer, M. Kelly Tillery, leased a home to a couple with the expectation that they were going to purchase it. When the deal fell through, the lawyer claims the couple still owed $10,000, so he sent two letters — on his law firm’s letterhead — to the couple seeking payment. Because the letters did not include the proper disclosures under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the couple is suing the lawyer for violating the law.
FAKE NEWS SITE SAYS COUNTRY BEING HELD AS COLLATERAL OVER PRESIDENT’S UNPAID DEBTS
- A collection agency is prepping to repossess the entire United States unless President Donald Trump pays off all of his outstanding debts, in this satirical article from the Onion. “Due to the significant scope of the president’s debts, as well as the lengthy amount of time he has been delinquent — decades, in some cases — we have no choice but to hold the entire expanse of the United States until his obligations are paid in full. And if President Trump’s late fees and interest continue to accumulate, we’ll require additional collateral in the form of Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa,” said a spokesman for the fake collection agency, called Parsons Credit Services.
