LOCAL NEWSPAPER PROFILES DEBT COLLECTOR WHO HAS BEEN ON JOB FOR 36 YEARS
- Myrna Hamilton has been a debt collector for 36 years, and makes an average of 175 to 200 phone calls per day. That’s a lot of calls. Hamilton, who works at Creditors’ Service Bureau of Niles Inc., was profiled by her local newspaper yesterday and talks about the skills needed to be an effective debt collector. And how she doesn’t like to answer the phone when she’s done working. Because, at the end of the day, she’s not that different from the people she is calling.
AGENCY ACCUSED OF INTENTIONALLY IGNORING TICKET AMNESTY CLAIMS
- A collection agency working on behalf of the San Diego County Court is being accused of intentionally denying amnesty claims being filed by individuals seeking to have their unpaid traffic ticket fines wiped from their records. A defense attorney is claiming the collection agency is ignoring the amnesty applications because it only gets paid based on what is collected. The agency did not comment for the article.
LEMBERG OFFERS FREE LEGAL SERVICES TO THOSE AFFECTED BY IMMIGRATION BAN
- A number of companies have stepped up in recent days with offers to help those who have been impacted by an immigration ban ordered by President Donald Trump. Add noted plaintiffs attorney Sergei Lemberg to the list. Lemberg issued a press release this morning offering “free debt- and credit-related legal services to the estimated 90,000 refugees and visa holders impacted by President Donald Trump’s executive order banning travel to the U.S. from seven Muslim-majority countries.” Said Lemberg: “The travel ban may have a devastating financial impact on those who live in the U.S. but who are detained or who are stuck in foreign countries. I want to help them get back on track.”
PRESIDENT PLANS OVERHAUL OF DODD-FRANK ACT
- To say that President Donald Trump has been active during his first weeks in office would likely be a dramatic understatement. Not just the pace of Executive Orders that have been flying out of the Oval Office, but the impact those orders have had, the new president is making his presence felt from the get-go. Monday, to the likely delight of many in the financial services industry, the President said that he plans to “do a big number” on the Dodd-Frank Act, which, among other things, created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
