SENATORS SUPPORTING PROPOSED LEGISLATION TO ‘DISMANTLE’ CFPB
- More Senators are climbing on the bandwagon to try and dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. As many as 12 Senators have now announced their support of legislation that would move the agency under Congressional oversight. Currently, the CFPB is not subject to Congressional review. The legislation, proposed by Senator David Perdue [R-Georgia], follows a bill that was introduced two days ago by Sen. Ted Cruz [R-Texas], which would do away with the CFPB outright.
SENTENCING DELAYED FOR POKER PLAYER, COLLECTION SCHEME MASTERMIND
- A professional poker player who pleaded guilty last year to masterminding a debt collection scheme has had his sentencing hearing delayed until April. Lawyers for Travell Thomas asked for the delay because of difficulties involving a civil case filed against Thomas and to obtain an evaluation from a psychiatrist for a possible bi-polar diagnosis. Thomas pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Each count faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
