ACA FILES BRIEF SUPPORTING PLAINTIFF IN CFPB APPEAL
- ACA International has filed its amicus brief in the case, PHH Corp. v. CFPB, echoing microsoft10 the plaintiff’s argument that the leadership structure of the CFPB is unconstitutional. In its brief, ACA says the CFPB “is ripe for the arbitrary and unrestrained exercise of power in disregard for due process, and for the constitutional rights of the objects upon whom that power is exercised.” Briefs in support of PHH’s arguments were due last Friday.
BBB PUBLISHES ALERT ON NEW DEBT COLLECTION SCAM
- The Better Business Bureau has published an alert, telling consumers of a new twist on an old debt collection scam. Consumers receive an automated call from a company claiming to be collecting payment for a cash advance. The recording prompts the individual to stay on the line and speak to an agent. At that point, the BBB argues that individuals hang up instead of being transferred to the agent, who then demands payment via a wire Windows 10 Professional product Key sale transfer or prepaid debit card.
PROPOSED LENDING LAW IN OHIO CRITICIZED FOR REMOVING CONSUMER PROTECTIONS
- The Ohio legislature is considering a bill that lawmakers say would modernize the Buckeye State’s banking and lending laws, while critics say the law, if enacted, would lead to higher fees, exploitation and a loss of legal protections for consumers. The bill passed the Ohio Senate last week unanimously.
