NAIMAN TALKS ABOUT OPPORTUNITIES IN DEBT BUYING MARKET
- Mark Naiman, the new president of the Receivables Management Association (formerly DBA International), shared his plans and goals for his term leading the trade group. But he also talked about an influx of new supply, where it is coming from, and other opportunities that are out there for debt buyers. All of this points to a new era of optimism in the debt buying market.

- Let’s see if we can follow all of this. Taylor Hansen was hired by the Department of Education for its beachhead team as part of the transition to President Donald Trump’s administration. Being part of this team meant Hansen did not have to be confirmed by the Senate. Prior to joining the department, Hansen was a lobbyist for the for-profit college industry, which is under fire for mis-leading thousands of individuals. Hansen’s father, meanwhile, is the CEO of a student loan debt collection company that has been suing the Education Department for two years so it can allegedly charge more fees. The father, Bill Hansen, is also a former Deputy Secretary of Education. Three days after all of this information was made public, Taylor Hansen resigned from his new job.
RETAILER WIPES OUT DEBTS FOLLOWING SETTLEMENT WITH NY AG
- A retail outlet called Freedom Stores, which specializes in selling merchandise to service members, has agreed to wipe out $540,000 in debts for more than 250 customers because it was accused of selling goods at “wildly inflated” prices.
