COMMITTEE MEMBERS RAMP UP RHETORIC DEBATING CFPB
- Democrats and Republicans both had their claws out earlier this week, as they debated whether the leadership structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is constitutional. Other than the photo ops and soundbites that were pure posturing, what was the point of the hearing? Based on the vitriol from both sides of the aisle, does anyone think that a committee member’s mind was changed? That’s doubtful. But, for my sake, it makes for great theater.
IRS SCAMMER CALLS POLICE OFFICER. COMEDY ENSUES
- File this under, know who call before you pick up and dial the phone. A scammer, purporting to be an agent from the Internal Revenue Service, called an individual trying to get him to make a payment on a debt he did not owe. The problem? The individual he called was a police officer. The officer recorded the call and it’s pure comedy gold.
MIDDLE CLASS CARRYING MORE MEDICAL DEBT BURDEN
- It’s not the low income individuals that are carrying the most medical debt these days, especially in Mississippi, the state with the highest amount of unpaid medical debt in the country. It’s the middle class individuals. Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy filings in Mississippi. Hospitals are being more proactive in trying to get people to pay, and some hospitals have cut the amount of unpaid debts in half, but there is still no clear solution to solving the crisis.
IDAHO LEGISLATURE MAY NOT GET TO WAGE GARNISHMENT BILL THIS SESSION
- The Idaho legislature is taking its time working through its docket of bills and a bill that would affect wage garnishment requirements is caught in the crosshairs. A hearing that was supposed to be held yesterday was delayed and it’s unclear whether the bill will be voted on by the time the legislature ends it session sometime next week.
