COLORADO AG SHUTS DOWN UNLICENSED COLLECTION AGENCY
- The Attorney General of Colorado announced yesterday that an unlicensed collection agency, Peak Resolution, has been ordered closed down and a judgment of nearly $500,00 has been imposed against the company. The agency not only operated without a license, but also engaged in deceptive and abusive practices when trying to collect debts.
MEET A 58-YEAR OLD COLLECTION ‘GURU’ WHO DEFENDS CONSUMERS
- A very interesting profile of a 58-year old lawyer in Vermont named Jean Murray, who spends her days representing individuals who are being sued by debt collectors. Murray has been called a “debt collection guru” by Vermont Legal Aid, and has been instrumental in getting judges in the state to adopt new rules requiring collectors to provide more information when suing individuals.
DELINQUENCY RATES ON AUTO LOANS, MOST OTHER CONSUMER LOANS, RISES IN 4Q: ABA
- The delinquency rate on auto loans originated directly to consumers and those originated through dealerships rose during the fourth quarter, according to data released by the American Bankers Association. Across all consumer lending categories, delinquency rates rose in eight of 11 categories tracked by the ABA. Even though rates are rising, they still remain relatively low, according to the ABA.
