For those of you who didn’t know, today was “Take Your Child To Work” day. I’m lucky enough to have three great kids — Noah, 11, Evan, 8, and Harper, 6. The three of them came downstairs into my office at precisely 9am this morning, having dressed themselves and gotten ready.
“I even brushed my teeth,” Evan proudly proclaimed.
Evan and Noah were wearing golf shirts and Harper picked out her own dress and even put on make-up for the occasion.
Yesterday, the House Financial Services Committee held a hearing to discuss the Financial Choice 2.0 Bill, proposed by Rep. Jeb Hensarling [R-Texas]. I asked Evan to watch as much of the hearing as he could and to write down what he heard and what he thought.
“I don’t know anything about this,” he said.
“That’s perfect,” I replied. “Listen to what they say and tell me who you think does a better job of explaining their side of the debate.”
Rather than type his words, I wanted to share exactly what he wrote:
“Dad, this guy sounds like he’s a horse racing announcer, he’s talking so fast,” Evan said to me at one point.
The hearing was more than five and a half hours long, so he couldn’t listen to all of it, but I am proud of him for trying. He and his siblings spent time with their mother, but Evan and Noah asked to come back to work with me because they wanted to finish the job they started. I’m proud of them for that.
