OREGON SUPREME COURT RULES LAWYERS SUBJECT TO STATE CONSUMER PROTECTION LAW
- The Oregon Supreme Court ruled last week that lawyers who collect debts are subject to the state’s Unfair Trade Practices Act. After years of legal wrangling between the state and Daniel Gordon, an attorney who collects from individuals. The state’s Department of Justice took umbrage at the legal tactics used by Gordon, and a six-year battle in the courts began, which ended with last week’s Supreme Court ruling.
