DEBT COLLECTION LAWS RESTRICT ACCESS TO CONSUMER CREDIT: STUDY
- Restricting collection activities through regulation and legislation ultimately limits individuals’ access to credit, according to a report published by the Federal Reserve Board of New York. The overall financial health of individuals also declines in the wake of increased legislation in the area of debt collection, according to the report.
COLLECTION AGENCY BANNED FROM COLLECTING IN KANSAS
- Jacobs Marsh, a collection agency, and its owner, Joseph Arena, have been barred from collecting debt in Kansas, according to a consent order between the firm and the state’s attorney general. The firm was accused of unlawfully pursuing collections and filing lawsuits and engaging in deceptive acts and practices. The company had 140 pending lawsuits in the state that will be dismissed.
