SCOTUS RULING A WIN FOR DEBT BUYERS, COLLECTIONS INDUSTRY
- In what will go down in history as the first time that Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote an opinion, the Supreme Court yesterday unanimously ruled that a company which purchases debts from another company and then attempts to collect on those debts is not defined as a “debt collector” under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The ruling in the case, Henson v. Santander, affirms a ruling from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and a District Court that the defendant is not defined as a debt collector.

TEXAS CITY OUTSOURCES COLLECTIONS OF $1 MILLION IN UNPAID PARKING TICKETS
- The city of McAllen, Texas, has decided to outsource collections of nearly $1 million in unpaid parking tickets to Duncan Solutions from Milwaukee. The agency is adding a 30% fee to the unpaid balances as its commission. The city had not attempted to collect on any unpaid parking tickets for nearly six years.
