DEBT COLLECTION SCAM RINGLEADER SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS IN PRISON
- Maurice Sessum, the co-owner and chief financial officer of Four Star Resolution was sentenced on Friday to 90 months in prison for his role in a debt collection scam that bilked individuals out of $31 million. Sessum joins Travell Thomas and 12 others who have pled guilty to counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud as part of the scam. Sessum pled guilty to the charges last November. Along with more than eight years in prison, Sessum must also forfeit $31 million.
SCAMMER GETS CAUGHT AFTER USING WRONG FAKE OFFICE ADDRESS
- Here is a lesson to scammers around the world: do your preparation work first. If you’re going to pretend to be a debt collector, do not use the same address for your office as a 9,000-seat arena that hosts one of the biggest rodeos in Texas every year. That might sound fishy to a lot of people in that city. Just sayin’.
OREGON LEGISLATURE PASSES BILL ADDING ADDITIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTIONS WHEN BEING SUED BY DEBT BUYERS
- ABC-Amega has announced a pair of promotions: Tom Riker will now be the company’s senior vice president of global outsourcing, and Michele Gerst has been promoted to vice president of global outsourcing. Riker has been with ABC-Amega since 2003. Gerst joined the firm last year.
LOCATESMARTER HIRES NEW PRESIDENT
- Jonathan Brooks has been hired as the new president at LocateSmarter, a skiptracing company. Brooks was most recently the executive vice president at Enformion, and developed the company’s online skip tracing platform and batch-processing services. Brooks also founded TriaxData in 1996 and continues to serve as that company’s chairman.
