WEBRECON DATA SHOWS DROP IN TCPA, FDCPA SUITS, BUT UPTICK IN FCRA LAWSUITS
- Summer vacation started early this year for consumer attorneys and professional plaintiffs. The number of complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as well as the number of lawsuits filed alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Telephone Consumer Protection Act were lower in June than a month earlier, according to data provided by WebRecon. And in the case of CFPB complaints, the number was markedly lower in June than it was in May.
REVENUE INTEGRITY DEPARTMENTS HELP HOSPITALS BOOST COLLECTIONS
- About half of hospitals have a revenue integrity department, but those that do are benefiting from an increase in net collections, according to a survey conducted by Navigant Consulting. Revenue integrity departments ensure accurate coding, charge capture, reasonable pricing for services, and other financial reporting. At the same time, 90% of hospitals are concerned about consumers self-paying for medical care, especially as healthcare insurance deductibles increase.
CREDIT UNIONS DEPLOYING COLLECTION ANALYTICS
- More credit unions are deploying analytics to help them determine what accounts to try to collect, how to contact those individuals, and when to reach out, according to a published report. The nature of the member-institution relationship at credit unions can make collections a more awkward conversation, and analytics can provide additional information to ease that awkwardness.
