ARIZONA AGENCY IN HOT WATER FOR NOT TURNING OVER FUNDS TO CLIENTS
- An Arizona collection agency — Surety Acceptance Corp. — appears to have closed down without making some remittance payments to its clients and is now facing the spotlight from state regulators. The Arizona Department of Financial Institutions has suspended the agency’s license and scheduled a hearing to revoke it completely. The agency is accused of, among other things, refusing to turn over funds it collected on behalf of its clients to those clients. One medical group says it is owed more than $40,000.
NYT GOES IN-DEPTH ON CFPB
- When The New York Times writes an article about the CFPB that mentions debt collections and is written by three different people, it’s an unwritten law that I have to link to it. The article tackles the political debate surrounding the agency and how Republicans want it gone, but its popularity may make it too important to get rid of. PLAINTIFFS’ LAWYER LAUNCHES SITE TO MAKE IT EASIER TO REPORT TCPA VIOLATIONS
- Stefan Coleman, a plaintiff’s lawyer, has launched www.myPayback.com, a website that individuals can use to report harassing telemarketing calls. Coleman’s staff investigates the calls for a potential violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and files a claim for $500 if one is found.
