- A Harvard University student has created a TurboTax equivalent that helps individuals file for bankruptcy without needing to hire a lawyer. The service is called UpSolve, and it turns the answers to a questionnaire into the court documents that individuals need to file when seeking bankruptcy protection.
CFPB FIRES BACK AT EDUCATION DEPT.
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is firing back at Betsy DeVos, the Secretary of Education and her department, accusing it of not understanding the role and responsibilities of the agency. MAKING TOO MANY CALLS HELPS GET TCPA FINE LOWERED
- Apparently, making too many automated calls can help your defense when being sued. A marketing company that placed more than three million robocalls to promote a movie is being filed $32 million — about $10 per call — for violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The TCPA statute says each violation is subject to a $500 fine, which would have amounted to a $1.6 billion penalty, which the judge deemed too excessive.
