JUDGE RULES LAW FIRM USED ‘MISLEADING’ LANGUAGE IN COLLECTION LETTER
- A federal judge has ruled a collection letter sent by law firm violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by using misleading language and by inadvertently shortening the 30-day timeframe that an individual has to file a dispute over an alleged debt. This, despite the fact that the law firm was following a legal precedent from another lawsuit it was involved in that said the language was permissible.
