Carroll County, Ill., is turning to a collection agency to help it recover unpaid fines, judgments, and traffic tickets.
Credit Collection Partners, who is working with many circuit clerks in Illinois, has been approved to handle accounts from Carroll County, according to a published report.
Without providing specifics about the amount of debt, other than to say it is “substantial,” the county is hoping for similar results from other CCP clients, which are receiving as much as $10,000 per month.
The move to hiring a collection agency is apparently coming at an opportune time. The Administrative Office of Illinois Courts, which oversees collections, is losing two staffers, including one who is going to work for CCP.
Similar to arrangements for most government contracts, CCP will not bill the county for any services, but will be compensated based on fees it collects from recovered funds.
The county had used Harris & Harris a number of years ago, but decided to switch to follow other counties that are switching to CCP.
