The Senate Commerce Committee has approved Rebecca Slaughter as a commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission. Slaughter joins a number of other commissioners who have been approved by the Commerce Committee but who are still awaiting confirmation by the full Senate.
Slaughter was nominated to replace Terrell McSweeny, who announced her resignation from the FTC earlier this month.
With McSweeny’s departure, four of the five commissioner seats at the FTC are vacant. Only Maureen Ohlhausen, the acting director, remains at the agency, and even she has one foot out the door.
President Trump has nominated replacements for those empty seats, but none have been confirmed by the Senate yet.
Joseph Simons has been nominated to be the next chairman, and Noah Phillips and Rohit Chopra have been nominated to be commissioners.
