I want to say at the outset that I’m definitely not blaming the collection agency on this one and unless they had the photo in question, there is no way they could have known in advance what they were doing. If they did have the photo, then maybe I’ll revisit whether they deserve some of the blame…
A Texas man received a collection letter, demanding $85.50 in unpaid tolls and fees. Sounds simple enough, right?
The problem? The tolls were incurred after he had donated his vehicle to a charity and the charity was towing his vehicle away.
Demanding a photo of the alleged incident from the local toll authority as proof the tolls were incurred, the photo shows the man’s vehicle — with no driver and the truck facing backwards, because it was being towed.
The owner took to the media after attempts to appeal to the collection agency and the toll authority got him nowhere. After the media’s intervention, the county waived the tolls and fees.
