Gies was promoted last week at VoApps, a provider of direct-to-voicemail solutions used by collection agencies to communicate with individuals.
M&A ACTIVITY FOR ARM INDUSTRY HAS ROBUST FIRST QUARTER OF 2018
- The ARM industry had its most active quarter in nearly a year during the first three months of 2018 for merger and acquisition deals, according to data released last week by Corporate Advisory Solutions. There were 10 deals completed during the first quarter of 2018, representing $1.4 billion in enterprise value. That is just the second billion-dollar quarter in the ARM industry in the past three years, according to CAS’s data.
COLLECTION AGENCY OFFERS MATCHING COLLEGE SAVINGS PLAN TO EMPLOYEES
- Americollect, a collection agency based in Manitowoc, Wisc., has announced the creation of a college savings program for its employees. The college savings plan, known as a 529 College Savings Plan, will be available to all company employees following 90 days of employment with the agency.

- The best payment plans are standardized ones where everyone — the agency, the creditor, and the individuals — know what is expected of them, according to a published report. There is a need for flexibility, but also a need for ensuring that organizations are doing what they can to try and get debts repaid.
R.I. GOVENOR CANDIATE AVOIDS CIVIL ARREST WARRANT, BUT NOW FACING EVEN BIGGER DEFAULT JUDGMENT
- Giovanni Feroce, who is running for governor of Rhode Island and found himself on the wrong side of a civil arrest warrant last week for failing to appear before a judge to answer questions about why he had not made any payments on a default judgment has fixed that problem, but is now facing another judgment. There was no indication how much of a payment was made on the $8,000 judgment, and Feroce has refused to answer questions about the debt, calling it a misunderstanding.
A CAUTIONARY COLLECTION TALE
- Here is an interesting collection story from the other side of the ocean. Kenneth Harkins had a mobile phone and paid about $13.50 per month. But Harkins, who is 88 and suffers from dementia, stopped using his phone. When his family tried to cancel the contract, they were not able to, because they did not know the password that Harkins put on his account when he signed the agreement. Harkins could not remember the password either.
