- Members of the ARM industry descended on Washington, D.C., in mid-May to attend ACA International’s annual Washington Insights conference. The event gave members of the ARM industry a chance to interact with the people who decide what they can, and can not do when collecting on debts. Many of those who attended the conference took the opportunity to meet with individuals at the different regulators or with members of Congress. FTC SETTLEMENT WILL BAN PAIR FROM ARM INDUSTRY FOR LIFE
- A pair of individuals who were charged last year with operating an abusive debt collection scam have reached a proposed settlement with the Federal Trade Commission which will see them barred from the ARM industry for the rest of their lives, as well as imposing a judgment of more than $1.6 million, which represents the amount of “consumer harm” they caused, according to the FTC.
REPORT MAKES CASE TO KEEP CFPB COMPLAINT DATABASE OPEN TO PUBLIC
- The Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection should continue to allow the public to access its consumer complaint database because it would ensure that everyone is held accountable, from the financial services organizations regulated by the Bureau to the Bureau itself, according to a new report issued by the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG).

- The House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit has scheduled a hearing for tomorrow afternoon about the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection. The hearing, Improving Transparency and Accountability at the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, will take place at 2pm EDT and feature six witnesses, four of them on the side of business and two representing consumer advocacy groups.
