BCFP ANNOUNCES $800,000 SETTLEMENT IN DEBT COLLECTION CONSENT ORDER
- The Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection on Friday announced an $800,000 settlement with National Credit Adjusters and its former chief executive, Brad Hochstein, but decided against forgiving $60 million in unpaid debts that were sought by former director Richard Cordray when he initiated the enforcement action before leaving office.
SENATORS WRITE MULVANEY, URGING REINSTATEMENT OF CAB MEMBERS
- A group of more than two dozen U.S. Senators — all of them Democrats — have sent a letter to Mick Mulvaney, the acting director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, urging him to reassemble the Consumer Advisory Board and to provide a plan for how the BCFP will meet its statutory requirements with regards to CAB.
APPEALS COURT UPHOLDS RULING IN FCRA CASE
- The Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has upheld a lower court’s summary judgment in favor of a defendant accused of violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act by failing to provide the plaintiff with a copy of his credit report and the opportunity to challenge any inaccuracies before taking an adverse action.
DISTRICT COURT GRANTS MOTION TO DISMISS TCPA CLASS ACTION
- In a case that was first reported by Eric Troutman at TCPAland, a District Court judge in Ohio on Friday granted a motion to dismiss a class-action lawsuit alleging violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act after the plaintiffs received two unsolicited text messages on their mobile phones.
