Democrats on the Senate Banking Committee have sent a letter to Sen. Mike Crapo [R-Idaho], the committee’s chairman, asking for a potential delay in the nomination hearing for Kathy Kraninger because they have not received documents they had previously requested.
Kraninger is scheduled to have her confirmation hearing tomorrow before the Senate Banking Committee. Following the announcement of her nomination last month to be the next director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, a number of Senators sent requests to Kraninger and the Trump administration seeking information related to incidents in which Kraninger may have been involved during her time as associate director of the White House Office of Management & Budget.
Kraninger has been nominated to replace Mick Mulvaney, the acting director of the BCFP.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren [D-Mass.], for example, sought information as to whether Kraninger was involved in the decision to separate children of immigrants attempting to enter the United States illegally from their parents, and Sen. Robert Melendez [D-N.J], requested details regarding Kraninger’s role in responding to Hurricane Maria last year in Puerto Rico.
“If the administration is unwilling or unable to provide responsive information in a timely manner, we respectfully ask that you postpone Thursday’s hearing on any nominee with outstanding information requests until such time as the information is available,” the Senators wrote.
A spokesperson for Sen. Crapo said the hearing is still scheduled for tomorrow, according to a published report.
