It appears as though Kathy Kraninger is a loyal soldier.
In response to written questions submitted by Senate Democrats related to her nomination to be the next director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, Kraninger said she sees nothing that acting director Mick Mulvaney has done during his nine months at the helm of the agency that she would change, according to a published report.
“Based on the information that is available to me at this time, I cannot identify any actions that Acting Director Mulvaney has taken with which I disagree,” she said.
As well, Kraninger has echoed comments from Mulvaney in that she renewed her vow to “fulfilling the Bureau’s congressional mandate in accordance with the Dodd-Frank Act,” according to the report.
Kraninger has faced heated criticism from Democrats who question her lack of consumer protection experience and possible ties to administration policies and decisions that have been widely questioned. As an associate director at the White House Office of Management and Budget, Kraninger has oversight of a number of cabinet departments, and Democrats have inquired repeatedly about her ties to some policies instituted by those departments — such as a zero tolerance policy that separated children from parents who were attempting to enter the U.S. illegally. Just as during her confirmation hearing, Kraninger refused to answer questions on those topics that were submitted in writing by members of the Senate Banking Committee.
Kraninger’s nomination will likely come up for a vote before the committee shortly after the Senate comes back from a brief August recess. If confirmed by the committee, her nomination will move to the entire Senate for approval.
