There appears to be so much at stake in today’s mid-term elections. Is it a referendum on the first two years of the Trump administration? Is it a chance for women to show that the #MeToo movement is not just a passing fad? Is it a chance to make a statement about the future of the country?
For the ARM industry, depending on how tonight’s election results go, it could mean Democrats at the helm of the House Financial Services Committee and the Senate Banking Committee. It could mean that Kathy Kraninger’s nomination to be the next director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection is dead in the water. It could mean significant changes at the state level, where residents in 36 states are voting on who they want to be their next governor. Thirty of the 43 states that elect an attorney general will do so today. Attorneys general are playing a more important role in consumer protection and investigating collection agencies. This is your chance to stand up and be heard.
Whatever your political affiliation, whatever you think of your local, state, or federal representatives, get out today and vote, if you have not done so already. You don’t get to complain about who your representatives are if you don’t vote, regardless of whether you voted for the winner or not, regardless of whether your candidate is likely to win or not, with or without your vote.
So much appears to be at stake today. It’s as if the soul of the nation is in the middle of a tug-of-war.
