A number of companies in North Texas have been laying off call center workers in the past few months.
Account Control Technology is one of those companies, having laid off 100 workers at its Dallas location earlier this year, which was part of an overall shedding of 175 jobs by the collection agency.
Joining ACT in laying off call center workers in and around Dallas are Comerica Bank, which recently filed paperwork indicating it was laying off 60 call center workers. The layoffs, which are scheduled for January, are from the bank’s customer contact center.
Capital One has laid off more than 1,000 workers from its Plano, Texas-offices as it exits the mortgage business. Ambit Energy, a utility company, cut 100 jobs, and AT&T laid off 280 workers from its Dallas call center, which handled collections and customer care communications.
For ACT, the layoffs were tied to a failed challenge of a contract from the Department of Education that was awarded to two other collection agencies – Performant Financial and Windham Professionals – which were subsequently canceled. ACT joined together with a number of other firms that mounted a legal challenge to the bidding process.
