- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Friday announced a town hall meeting in Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 8, leading many in the industry to treat that date as the likely birth announcement for the agency’s proposed debt collection rule.
APPEALS COURT AFFIRMS DISMISSAL OF FDCPA LETTER SUIT
- The Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has affirmed a lower court’s dismissal of a lawsuit ruling that a defendant did not violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by using a registered DBA and referring to itself as “professional debt collectors” in a collection letter that was signed by an individual who was not licensed to collect debts in the state in which the plaintiff resided.
HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE TO HOLD ROBOCALL HEARING TOMORROW
- The House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Communications and Technology has announced a legislative hearing will be held tomorrow at 10am on the topic of “Legislating to Stop the Onslaught of Annoying Robocalls.”
