Do you want more evidence that healthcare collections is a good spot to be, at least for the short term? More than 1 million Americans lost their health insurance coverage last year, according to data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Overall, 30 million Americans, about 10% of the country’s population, was uninsured last year. This marks the second straight annual increase in the number of individuals without any form of health insurance, following several years of declines.
The number of individuals enrolled in high-deductible healthcare plans reached an all-time high last year, with 45.8% of Americans enrolled in such a plan. That figure compares with just 25.3% of Americans who had a high-deductible healthcare plan in 2010.
High-deductible healthcare plans are causing problems of their own, according to a recently released survey, with individuals either not able to afford going to the doctor or delaying healthcare procedures because they can’t afford it.
On a state-by-state level, Texas had the highest percentage of uninsured individuals, at 25%, followed by Georgia (20.9%), Florida (20%), and North Carolina (17.2%). Massachusetts had the lowest rate of uninsured individuals, at 4.9%, followed by New York (6.8%), and Pennsylvania (8.5%).
More than 17% of individuals went without healthcare coverage for all of 2018, according to the report.
