The 90-day comment window on the proposed debt collection rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau opened today following its publication in the Federal Register, and will remain open until August 19, 2019.
Comments on the proposed rule can be submitted via an online portal, email, or by old-fashioned mail. If you wish to submit a comment online, you can go to www.regulations.gov and, using the docket number CFPB-2019-0022, submit your comment. Comments can also be submitted via email by sending an email to 2019-NPRM-DebtCollection@cfpb.gov. Individuals submitting comments via email must include Docket No. CFPB-2019-0022 or RIN 3170-AA41 in the subject of the message. If you want to use an envelope and stamp to tell the CFPB what you think of the proposed debt collection rule, address your thoughts to Comment Intake—Debt Collection, Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, 1700 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20552. Individuals are encouraged to submit comments electronically over sending in comments via traditional mail because electronic comments will be processed faster, according to the information in the Federal Register. Comments will not be edited to remove any contact or identifying information.
The publication of the proposed rule in the Federal Register appears to look the same as what the CFPB distributed two weeks ago when it released the proposed rule.
