N.J. JUDGE DISMISSES CLASS-ACTION FDCPA SUIT OVER DISPUTE NOTICE LANGUAGE IN LETTER

  • A District Court judge in New Jersey has dismissed a class-action lawsuit filed against a collection agency for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by using the statutory dispute notice language in a collection letter.

  • It can be very easy for collection agencies to get bogged down in what is known as “analysis paralysis” when attempting to figure out the productivity of collectors, because there are so many different data points and variables that can be factored into an equation.

CFPB SETTLES WITH ORG. SERVICING ITT TECH LOANS

  • An organization that was collecting and servicing student loans for a bankrupt for-profit university will forgive $168 million in loans and ask credit bureaus to delete tradelines relative to the debts under a settlement that has been reached with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

CONGRESS PASSES TAX REFOM BILL, INCLUDES CHANGES FOR PRIVATE DEBT COLLECTION PROGRAM

  • Congress has approved a bill that will change the type of unpaid income tax debts that can be placed with private collection agencies.
