Another handful of credit and collection industry representatives have taken advantage of the form template created by ACA International to submit their comments on the proposed debt collection rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau while a new form letter from consumers is also starting to pop up in the comment list.
Among those from the industry who have submitted comments in the past few days are Jeff DeMatteo from American Profit Recovery, Kelly Naylor and Brittany Sandlin from Allied Collection Services, Mary Peterson from Collection Professionals, Inc., Sue Unterberger from Jefferson Capital, Jackie Semon from Helvey and Associates, Inc., and William Hopkinson from Valley Credit Service. They used a template from ACA International to submit their comments in support of the proposed rule. Another comment supporting the proposed rule was submitted by Hunter Quinn, who used his own script.
“The intent of the [Fair Debt Collection Practices Act] is to protect consumers, not to enrich consumer attorneys,” Quinn writes. “These same attorneys wish to prevent the CFPB from providing clarification because it would hamper their attempts to exploit confusion of the law.”
The new form template being used by consumers, meanwhile, takes aim at the proposed rule because it “allows too many calls,” “allows unlimited texts, emails, and direct messages,” and “protects deceptive practices by collection attorneys.” A sample of the new form template can be seen here
