Three more healthcare companies have come forward and announced information from their patients was compromised in a data breach at American Medical Collection Agency. That brings the number of companies that have announced their involvement to nearly two dozen and raises the number of compromised records to more than 24 million.
West Hills Hospital & Medical Center in California, Inform Diagnostics, and CompuNet Clinical Laboratories all announced their involvement last week, according to a published report. The three companies were all notified at different points in June by Retrieval-Masters Creditors Bureau, the parent company of AMCA. RMCB has filed for bankruptcy protection because of the costs of dealing with the breach, which have surpassed more than $4 million. The company is the subject of numerous class-action lawsuits and regulatory inquiries and some of the companies former clients want it liquidated.
An unknown number of individuals who were patients of a lab company used by West Hills Hospital & Medical Center were victimized in the breach, in which an unauthorized user gained access to AMCA’s web-based payments portal for nearly eight months between August 2018 and March 2019. More than 173,000 patients from Inform Diagnostics were victimized in the breach, and approximately 111,000 patients from CompuNet had their information compromised.
The individuals involved in this latest round of notifications had their names, addresses, banking information, Social Security numbers, credit and debit card numbers, dates of birth, medical information, and account numbers stolen.
IMO, that’s because most of these groups are SELLING that data, it’s not a breach. They claim it’s a breach, we all know otherwise.
