Rep. Sean Duffy [R-Wisc.], a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, announced yesterday he is resigning from Congress to spend more time with his family.
Rep. Duffy, who has been on Congress for eight years, was the ranking member in the Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance. But he is most well-known for being a vocal critic of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, who introduced legislation to reform the agency. Rep. Duffy once introduced legislation to improve transparency and the predictability of guidance issued by the CFPB, requiring the guidance to be legally binding.
Rep. Duffy, who is married to a contributor for Fox News and has eight children, said in a Facebook post that being a member of Congress has been “the highest honor of my life.”
His last day in office will be Sept. 23.
“As you all know, raising a family is hard work,” Duffy said in the post. “It’s especially true for one as large and busy as mine. Being away from home in Washington four days a week is challenging and for that reason, I have always been open to signs from God when it comes to balancing my desire to serve both my family and my country.
“Recently, we’ve learned that our baby, due in late October, will need even more love, time, and attention due to complications, including a heart condition. With much prayer, I have decided that this is the right time for me to take a break from public service in order to be the support my wife, baby and family need right now. It is not an easy decision – because I truly love being your Congressman – but it is the right decision for my family, which is my first love and responsibility.”
