JUDGE GRANTS MTD IN FDCPA CASE OVER MISSTATED AMOUNTS IN BK PROOF OF CLAIM

  • A District Court judge in Minnesota has granted a defendant’s motion to dismiss after it was sued for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by allegedly misstating the amount of interest and fees when filing a proof of claim in a bankruptcy proceeding.

JUDGE SIGNS OFF ON $267 MILLION JUDGMENT AGAINST COLLECTOR IN TCPA CASE

  • A final judgment of $267,349,000 has been entered against a collection agency that was found guilty of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by making calls to individuals’ cell phones without their prior consent.

IDAHO PLAINTIFF’S ATTORNEY GIVES UP LAW LICENSE FOLLOWING STATE BAR INVESTIGATION

  • An Idaho plaintiff’s attorney who specialized in filing suits against collection agencies has agreed to voluntarily give up his law license rather than face a disciplinary hearing before the state bar, admitting he took “shortcuts” when representing his clients, according to a published report.

MORE INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE LIKELY MEANS MORE WORK FOR COLLECTION AGENCIES

  • Fewer people had health insurance coverage in 2018 than did in 2017, according to data released yesterday by the Census Bureau, likely because more people are working and are no longer qualifying for Medicaid coverage. The data for 2019 is also looking like more individuals are going without health insurance. The increase from 2017 to 2018 is the first time the uninsured rate has gone up since the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, which became law in 2010.

WORTH NOTING: Eighteen years later, and it still feels like yesterday … How 9/11 is being taught in schools today … For people who want to volunteer to commemorate 9/11 … How we communicated on 9/11. For me, AOL Instant Messenger is how I let friends and family know I was ok and how my wife and I figured out how we were getting home from midtown Manhattan … How to never be late again … Everything Apple announced yesterday … A high school swimmer was disqualified for showing too much skin … How to help managers spot employees who are burning out … Americans’ credit scores keep getting better … Jay Leno’s advice about buying used cars.

Naps may be good for you
