GETTING TO KNOW PAUL LANKES OF WILLIAMS & FUDGE

  • Like many who have been profiled through the years, Paul Lankes got his start in the collection business on the ground floor and without expecting to spend his professional career in the industry. Paul sees the industry for what it is — an opportunity to help solve important problems for individuals who need help. Read on to learn more about Paul and why he still loves to jump on the phone now and then to handle collection calls. This series is sponsored by TCN.

JUDGE GRANTS MTD IN FDCPA CASE OVER DIFFERENT LANGUAGE IN DISPUTE NOTICE

  • A District Court judge in North Carolina has granted a defendant’s motion to dismiss after it was sued for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by not quoting the statutory dispute notice language in a collection letter.

ACA INTERNATIONAL SUBMITS 154-PAGE COMMENT ABOUT PROPOSED RULE

  • In what is likely the most comprehensive comment that will be submitted, ACA International laid out broad support for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s proposed debt collection rule, but identified several changes that will “impose significant burdens” without “any quantitative evidence of consumer harm in those areas.”

CFPB TO KEEP COMPLAINT DATABASE OPEN, BUT WITH SOME CHANGES

  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced yesterday that it will continue to publish its database of consumer complaints, but announced that it will make some changes to how the data is presented, which appeared to keep both consumer advocates and participants in the credit and collection industry happy.

WORTH NOTING: After three years of being closed, the Washington Monument is re-opening today … Can you really have a “Saved By The Bell” reboot without Zack Morris? … The Navy has confirmed the existence of “unidentified” flying objects … What young children should be drinking most, according to scientists … What science can tell you about having a good logo … Things that will get cheaper now that the Fed has cut rates again … Artificial intelligence can now tell you if you’re in the friend zone or not … Nearly half of all homeless people in America are in California … Emmitt Smith tells you why you shouldn’t sleep on an airplane … Chefs talk about the foods they can’t stand.
