CALIFORNIA AG ISSUES PROPOSED REGULATIONS TO COMPLY WITH CCPA

  • As part of the requirements for the enactment of the California Consumer Privacy Act, Xavier Becerra, the Attorney General of California, yesterday released proposed regulations that address how the law will be implemented.

BILL INTRODUCED TO KEEP CFPB FROM INCLUDING ‘UNLIMITED’ TEXTS AND EMAILS IN PROPOSED RULE

  • I’ll admit that I didn’t even realize it when I listed a package of bills that were on the agenda to be discussed at last month’s House Financial Services Committee hearing on debt collection — largely because it had not been introduced yet, I’ll tell myself to try and make me feel better — but it does appear that Rep. Ayanna Pressley [D-Mass.] is moving forward with proposed legislation that would, among other things, prohibit the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from issuing any rule that allows an “unlimited” number of text messages and emails to be sent to individuals by collectors.

BILLIONAIRE COMMITS ADDITIONAL $500k TO HELP FIGHT COLLECTION LAWSUITS

  • A billionaire and his wife have doubled down on their commitment to help residents of Idaho defend themselves against “aggressive tactics” by “medical debt collectors,” and will donate an additional $500,000 along with lobbying the Idaho state legislature to protect consumers from “unsavory practices related to medical debt,” according to a published report.

HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION DOES AWAY WITH LEGAL COLLECTIONS

  • Yet another healthcare organization has announced it will no longer file lawsuits against individuals with unpaid medical bills, and will no longer seek to garnish wages or bank accounts or have liens placed on homes.

WORTH NOTING: The Prime Minister of Ethiopia has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize … The most popular email service in America … How the photos you upload of your kids are helping power facial recognition technology … How you can help on International Day of the Girl … People have a lot of opinions about tipping … The cities where you don’t to get sick … How to shut down someone who won’t shut up at meetings … Why Americans have so much trouble saving money … Why you should think twice about leaving a negative review on Yelp.
